Truly special cars
don’t hit the showrooms that often, but every now and then a car comes
along that really grabs your attention and demands that you take
notice. The Saturn Sky, and its sibling the Pontiac Solstice, are just
such cars. As soon as we saw the prototypes four years ago, we knew we
had to develop a line of parts to help these little roadsters achieve
their full potential.
Developing
a proprietary line of parts for new vehicles which are sure to become
automotive icons would seem a daunting task. Fortunately, we were able
to assemble a team that thrives on just these sorts of challenges. Each
Saturn-Sport team member is highly motivated and uniquely qualified,
and when brought together, they form a company ready to meet the needs
of an extremely demanding automotive aftermarket.
Ian
Stewart has joined Saturn-Sport, and will be leading product
development and design. If you’re unfamiliar with the name, that’s ok,
it’s actually the way he likes it. You’re much more likely to be
familiar with his work. In 2006 Ian was the lead race engineer on Rhys
Millen’s Red Bull / GM Racing Pontiac Solstice and Pontiac GTO drift
cars, and in 2007 Ian’s experience has been enlisted by a prominent
NASCAR Nextel Cup team. He currently is the C.O.O. of Autosport
Dynamics Inc, who built and campaigns the Falken Tire / Sears Auto
Center Saturn Sky drift car. He has a long history in race car
engineering and automotive product development, where some of his past
accomplishments include working directly with race drivers Mika
Hakkinen (ex F1 world champion) and Christian Fittipaldi (nephew of
Emerson), among many others. He has also developed a substantial amount
of aftermarket automotive products for OEM and private companies,
including an entire line for the Subaru WRX and STi sold under the PDE
brand. Ian has recently sold his share of the PDE Company in order to
focus on product development for Saturn-Sport, and we’re excited to
have him join us.
Dr.
Jonathan Blanchard is the second member of the Saturn-Sport team, and
brings with him a wealth of knowledge pertaining to intellectual
property law. From his law firm in Chicago, Dr. Blanchard specializes
in the acquisition and evaluation of patent rights for multi-national
corporations, and is a valuable asset to any design team. Jonathan’s
primary purpose within Saturn-Sport will be in protecting the
innovative design and development of our products, and guidance with
strategic planning. Jonathan has been an enthusiast of performance cars
for many years, and among other vehicles has a modified and rather
quick Subaru WRX sitting in his garage for when the urge strikes. He
also has an old school bent, maintaining a much slower but classier
Porsche 356C for special occasions.
Keith
Stewart joins Saturn-Sport as lead counsel and director of business
administration and finance. A corporate attorney in his own practice,
Keith brings a wealth of expertise in product and technology law, and
has substantial experience in business consulting. Keith’s leadership
and guidance with strategic planning and finance at Saturn-Sport is an
invaluable asset within our company. And yes, we’re slowly even getting
him into performance cars…
Our
philosophy is simple. We seek to enhance a vehicle, not just alter it.
Too many manufacturers simply alter existing parts to fit a new vehicle
without sufficiently developing them to work with the new vehicles’
dynamic characteristics. At Saturn-Sport we design and develop parts
specifically for each application. We’ve purchased not one, but two
Pontiac Solstices for product development – a 2006 2.4 liter naturally
aspirated model, and a 2007 GXP 2.0 liter turbocharged version. We have
a dedicated R&D facility, full fabrication and machine shop
capability, and the latest 3D solid modeling design software including
finite analysis capability to assist our design and manufacturing team.
Every performance part we design and manufacture meets or exceeds OEM
quality, fits correctly, has undergone stringent testing procedures,
and actually works. The results of our ongoing efforts can be found
within this website and the race car we built and maintain, and we
invite you to take a moment and look around.
